Armand du Cambout de Coislin

Armand du Cambout de Coislin (also: Duc de Coislin ) (born September 1, 1635 in Paris , † September 16, 1702 in Versailles ) was a French nobleman, professional officer, courtier and member of the Académie française .

Life

family

Armand du Cambout was born in Paris as the eldest son of Pierre César de Cambout, Marquis de Coislin (1613-1641) and Madeleine Séguier (1618-1710), eldest daughter of Pierre Séguier , Chancellor of France . Richelieu was his godfather. His younger brother was Cardinal Pierre du Cambout de Coislin , Bishop of Orléans . His sons were Pierre du Cambout, duc de Coislin (1654-1710) and Henri-Charles de Coislin , Bishop of Metz (1697-1732).

Young years

Since his father was killed in the siege of Aire-sur-la-Lys in 1641 , Cambout and his younger brother were raised by Jean Ballesdens , Séguiers ' secretary. His grandfather Séguier, patron of the Académie française since 1643, made him a member of the Academy in 1652 at the age of 16 (seat no. 25). Also in 1652 he married Madeleine du Halgouët († 1705). In 1654 he was in Reims at the anointing of Louis XIV. One of the four ritual "hostages" of the sacred ampoule .

Cambout was above all a warrior, at the age of 20 a captain in the siege of Landrecies , 1663 Duke of Coislin and Peer of France . In 1665 he took over the Régiment Mestre de Camp Général cavalerie . In 1668 he became Lieutenant-Général des Armées du Roi (Chief of Staff).

Death and burial

When he died in 1702 at the age of 67, he was buried in the Rekollektenkirche in Saint-Denis (1705 also his widow). The church was destroyed by the French Revolution.

Honors

Coislin had been a Knight of the Order of Michael since 1688 . He also belonged to the Order of the Holy Spirit .
