Jean Cosmat (born July 3, 1910 in Nantes , † March 29, 2010 ibid) was a French rower .

biography

Jean Cosmat competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin together with Marcel Chauvigné and the brothers Marcel and Fernand Vandernotte in a four-man team. Fernand's twelve-year-old son Noël acted as helmsman . The crew won the bronze medal behind the German and Swiss boats. The crew had already won the silver medal at the European Championships in Lucerne two years earlier .

In 2008 he and Noël Vandernotte were awarded the Ordre national du Mérite . In 2010, he died three months before his 100th birthday after falling down the stairs in his home in Nantes.
