Étienne Noël Henri Vandernotte (born December 25, 1923 in Anglet ; † June 19, 2020 ) was a French helmsman .

biography

Noël Vandernotte took part in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin when he was only 12 years old . However, he is not the youngest known modern Olympian. This record is held by the Greek Dimitrios Loundras , who took part in the 1896 gymnastics games at the age of 10 years and 218 days .

Noël Vandernotte started rowing as the helmsman . He came to this position through his father Fernand Vandernotte and his uncle Marcel Vandernotte , with whom he started in a four-man helm. He also acted as the helmsman for Marceau Fourcade and Georges Tapie in a two-man helm . In both regattas he was able to win the bronze medal on August 14, at the age of 12 years and 233 days.

In 2008 he was awarded the Ordre national du Mérite .
