The two-man rowing regatta at the 1936 Summer Olympics took place on the Berlin-Grünau regatta route from August 12th to 14th .
Before the competition there were Polish boats, which won the silver medal in 1932 , but were also favored by the German crew because of their home advantage, but there was no clear favorite for the Olympic victory.
In the run-up, however, the German team with Gerhard Gustmann , Herbert Adamski and Dieter Arend showed their skills and finished the race first with a six-second lead. In the second run, the French team moved directly into the final, although they would only have finished fourth in the run of the Germans. Denmark, Yugoslavia, Italy and Switzerland secured the remaining final places via the semi-finals. In the finals, the European champions of 1935 Italy led the field until about halfway through the race , but they were overtaken by the German team, which was 13 seconds ahead of the Olympic champions. Italy was able to secure the silver rank and the French with Marceau Fourcade , Georges Tapie and their helmsman Noël Vandernotte , who was only 12 years and 233 days old at the time of the final, won bronze.
