Jean Didier Debut
Jean Didier Début (born June 4, 1824 in Moulins , † April 5, 1893 in Paris ) was a French sculptor.
Life
Début studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris . He was a student of Pierre Jean David d'Angers . His subjects included mythological and Arabic themes, as groups, statues or busts.
He exhibited his work at the Paris Salon in 1848. In 1851 he received the Prix de Rome second class from the Académie des Beaux-Arts . His most significant works include Faun and Bacchantes , Danaide and a statue of Empress Eugénie , which was destroyed in 1871. In Paris he was involved in the decoration of the commercial court, the Paris Opera and the Hôtel de Ville .
His son Marcel Début (1865–1933) was his student and also became a sculptor.
