Jean Dufournet
Jean Dufournet (born March 13, 1933 in Thônes ; † May 5, 2012 in Férolles-Attilly ) was a French Romanist and Medievalist .
life and work
Dufournet, who grew up in the French High Alps, attended the Lycée du Parc in Lyon and passed the Agrégation in the subject Grammaire in 1957 . He taught in Arras and Rabat and was an assistant at the University of Clermont-Ferrand from 1960 to 1964 . From 1964 he taught at the University of Montpellier . He completed his habilitation with the writings La destruction des mythes dans les mémoires de Philippe de Commynes (Geneva, Droz, 1966) and Introduction aux Mémoires de Philippe de Commynesand was professor in Montpellier from 1967 to 1970. From 1970 until his retirement in 1994 he taught as a professor for French literature of the Middle Ages at the University of Paris III (at times also as vice-president). Dufournet was a member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences (1995) and the Académie royale des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts de Belgique (1998), as well as an honorary doctorate from the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest (1985). From 1974 he published the magazine Revue des langues romanes and was co-editor of the magazine Moyen Age , also editor of several series publications (in Verlag Champion), as well as editor and translator of numerous texts from the Middle Ages.
