Jean d'Estrées, comte de Nanteuil-le-Haudouin , called d'Estrées (* 1624 , † March 9, 1707 in Paris ), was Marshal and Admiral of France .

Jean came from the influential French noble family of the Estrées and was the son of Marshal François-Annibal d'Estrées . He first served under Turenne , but was captured, where he spent over ten years.

Appointed commander of the sea troops by the king in 1668, he chastised the predatory states, commanded the united fleet of France and England against Holland in 1672 and fought against the Dutch admiral de Ruyter in the Solebay (→ Naval Battle of Solebay , June 7, 1672).

In 1673 he prevented the British allied victory in the sea ​​battle off Texel by his inaction . In 1676 he wrested Cayenne from the Dutch , conquered Gorée and the island of Tobago , became marshal in 1681, defeated the predatory states Tripoli and Tunis in 1685 and was appointed viceroy of the American colonies in 1686 . In 1688 he chastised Algiers, fought happily against the English in 1691 and in 1704 received the governorate of Nantes .

He died in Paris on March 9, 1707.
