Jean IV. De Foix-Grailly (* after 1410; † 1485 in Castelnau-de-Médoc ) was a son of Captal de Buch Gaston I. de Foix-Grailly and his wife Marguerite d'Albret.

On his father's side, Jean was a member of the noble house of Grailly , which was wealthy in Gascony , which in turn had its roots on Lake Geneva and came into the possession of the County of Foix through inheritance . His father was the younger brother of Count John I von Foix and fought for the English king against France during the Hundred Years War . Like him, Jean became a loyal supporter of England. After the family property in Gascon was conquered by France, Jean's father sold his rights in 1451 and went into exile in Aragon .

In 1446 Jean was made a Knight of the Order of the Garter and received from King Henry VI on the occasion of his marriage to Margarethe de la Pole . of England the title of Earl of Kendal. On July 17, 1453 he fought in the Battle of Castillon , the last great battle of the Hundred Years' War, and after the defeat he was taken prisoner by the French and spent seven years at the castle of Taillebourg . At the time of his release, the House of York took power in England with Edward IV . Jean, who was a supporter of the House of Lancaster , then returned to his homeland in Gascon. There he received in 1461 from King Ludwig XI. returned from France his father's possessions, the captalate of Buch, the county of Bénauges and the vice-county of Castillon . As a result, becoming a French vassal, the English king revoked the title of Earl of Kendal, but Jean's son and successor was still to continue the title of Count of Candale ( Comte de Candale ). In 1662 Jean resigned from the Order of the Garter, and his vacant position in this knighthood was then given to the Duke of Gloucester (later King Richard III ).

Jean de Foix-Grailly died in 1485.
