J. Paul Getty (1944)

Jean Paul Getty (born December 15, 1892 in Minneapolis , Minnesota , USA , † June 6, 1976 in Woking , Surrey , United Kingdom ) was an American oil tycoon , industrialist and art patron . He was in his time as the richest person in the world (1966 its assets amounted to 1.6 billion US dollars ).

Life

J. Paul Getty was a son of George Franklin Getty and his wife Sarah Risher. He was the founder of Getty Oil Co. , which has been part of Texaco Inc. since 1984 . In addition to his successful entrepreneurial activity, he was also an art collector and patron . In 1953 he founded the J. Paul Getty Museum Trust , which is still the sponsor of the Paul Getty Museum . The original building commissioned by Getty, the Getty Villa on the site of his own private home, now houses the museum's antiques department.

Getty died in 1976 in Sutton Place , his country house between Woking and Guildford in Surrey, England.

On July 10, 1973, his grandson John Paul Getty III , son of John Paul Getty II, was kidnapped in Rome at the age of 16. The grandfather initially refused to pay the ransom because he suspected the kidnapping was just fake. The kidnappers then cut off one ear of John Paul and sent it to a newspaper. Afterwards Getty paid about 3.0 million US dollars . Media reports revealed that he was demanding that his son repay him $ 800,000 with interest.

2017, the movie was all the money in the world of Ridley Scott , who takes care of the kidnapping. Christopher Plummer plays J. Paul Getty in it. In the television series Trust by Danny Boyle from 2018 Getty is by Donald Sutherland embodies.
