Jeanne Bal (born May 3, 1928 in Santa Monica , California , † April 30, 1996 in Sherman Oaks , California) was an American film and stage actress .

Life

Jeanne Bal was born to Peter Bal, a production designer for Monogram Pictures , and grew up in Los Angeles . Here she also attended Los Angeles City College . She was discovered by a talent scout and then took on one of her first roles in the musical Gypsy Girl . A tour took her to both New York City and London .

As a young woman, she worked as a model for a short time before getting her first engagement on Broadway in January 1950 . But the piece Alive and Kicking as well as the follow-up project Great to Be Alive! , which was seen from March 1950, proved to be unsuccessful. Only with the third track Call Me Madam , in which Bal was seen, was she more lucky. It was performed 644 times by May 1952. She last appeared on stage from November 1961 to February 1962 in the play The Gay Life .

As early as 1958 she was an actress in front of the film camera; it made its debut in an episode of the short-lived television series Adventures of the Sea Hawk . In 1959 she took on one of the leading roles on the side of William Demarest in the television series Love and Marriage , the production of which was discontinued after 18 episodes due to lack of success. Bal's film career was subsequently limited to television series only. In the 1960s she stood in front of the camera for The Dick Powell Show , Bonanza and Perry Mason . All fans of the genre are also familiar with her guest appearance in the television series Raumschiff Enterprise , in which she embodied the first hostile alien in the science fiction series in 1966. Her career ended abruptly; In 1970 she was in front of the camera for an episode of Matt Lincoln for the last time.

Little is known about her private life. She was married to Russ Bowman, a stage manager; whether they had children is not certain.

She died of breast cancer in April 1996 at the age of 67 .
