Jeanneau is one of the largest French shipyards for pleasure craft .
history
In 1957, Henri Jeanneau began building his first motorboat in his father's workshop in Les Herbiers to take part in the 6 Hours of Paris race . After the successful participation, the hobby developed into a trade. In 1959 he hired two apprentice boat builders in his young company, Le Hall Nautique de l'Ouest . Jeanneau later traded under the name Les Constructions Nautiques Jeanneau .
At the beginning of the 1960s, the first motor boats made of polyester were made, with the Calanque still having a classic deck construction made of wood as a pioneer. With the Mirage , which was developed in the same year , the step came to a boat made entirely of plastic . So that the jump was made into a series production: Once a trunk cured or workpiece and the mold was removed, was with the production of the next begun. One mold delivered a large number of identical individual parts relatively quickly.
Gradually the GRP boats gained acceptance and the expensive production of wooden boats was stopped.
In 1964, Jeanneau opened up a new field of business with the introduction of the first sailing boats . He benefited from the growing popularity of water sports when Eric Tabarly won the OSTAR one-handed regatta in the same year . This was followed by other French regatta successes , with some of Jeanneau's ships among the winners.
Towards the end of the 1960s, with the industrialization of French boatbuilding , Jeanneau expanded its series production, which brought further cost savings and made sailing possible for more people. This was particularly evident in the Jeanneau Sangria presented in 1970 with a quantity of 2500.
Since the acquisition in 1995, Jeanneau has been part of the Bénéteau group of companies .
