Krecké as Minister of Economics (2009)

Jeannot Krecké (born April 26, 1950 in Luxembourg ) is a politician of the Lëtzebuerger Sozialistesch Aarbechterpartei (LSAP ).

Since July 31, 2004, Krecké has been Luxembourg's Minister for Economic Affairs and Foreign Trade. From 2004 to 2009 he was also Minister of Sport.

On November 10, 2011, Krecké announced his intention to withdraw completely from politics on February 1, 2012. On November 28, 2011, the General Council of the LSAP proposed Etienne Schneider as his successor. So far, he has acted as an advisor in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the energy company Enovos .

After graduating from secondary school in Luxembourg City, Krecké passed the physical education teacher exam at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He then turned to economics and accounting and taxation, about which he has attended various courses in the United States.

After his professional reorientation, he taught courses on economics, accounting and taxation and published a book on Luxembourg income tax . He also worked as an external consultant for Mazars (1994–1999), Arthur Andersen (1999–2003) and Ernst & Young (2003–2004).

In 1997 he wrote a report on tax fraud in Luxembourg on behalf of Prime Minister Jean Claude Juncker . In the published version, however, a page was missing on tax rulings with which companies could avoid taxes at the expense of neighboring countries. The mirror shows that Jean-Claude Juncker claimed not to have known this page. Krecke described this as untrue in September 2015: "I can confirm that I gave Mr. Juncker a public and a personal version of my report in April 1997," wrote Krecke in an email to SPIEGEL ONLINE. Juncker's "personal version" contained the explosive side, but not the published version, because one wanted to avoid a discussion in Europe.

On January 19, 2012, Krecké and Finance Minister Luc Frieden announced the creation of two funds to invest in the future of the Luxembourg economy, the Fund Life Sciences and the Luxembourg Future Fund . He has been on the board of directors of Sistema JSFC , a Russian company listed on the London Stock Exchange , since July 2012 .
