Jeanny and Santa Claus is a Christmas film that was directed by Burt Brinckerhoff in 1989 .

action

It is exactly five days before Christmas and at the North Pole, Santa Claus pushes one depri phase after the other. He is considering giving up his job because people no longer really believe in him and are only concerned with their own gain when giving gifts. His five elves complain about his opinion and his wife, Mrs. Santa Claus, tries to change his mind with encouraging words.

In distant Chicago , eight-year-old Jennifer Baxter is also very sad because she has just learned that her father cannot spend Christmas at home with the family. Jenny quickly comes up with the idea to take her mother on a trip to Los Angeles to visit her father there. The mother, who is stressed at work herself, does not think this is a good idea and weighs in.

Jenny sees no other way out than to contact Santa Claus directly and writes him a touching letter asking him to do everything possible to enable her father to be with her for Christmas.

The letter will soon end up with Santa Claus and it doesn't take much persuasion from his wife to send it to the people and to help Jenny.

In the meantime, Jenny has scraped up all her savings and wants to take the bus to Los Angeles. On the bus, she meets Santa Claus personally, who tells her about the letter. So they both go on the trip together and have a short stay in Denver . There they get to know the seedy Napoleon, who, as a greedy crook, distributes uncovered lottery tickets among the people and promises them winnings. Napoleon disguised as Santa Claus engages the real Santa Claus in a conversation. Two police officers happened to observe the scene and arrest the wanted criminal as well as Santa Claus and Jenny. Unnoticed by the two police officers, Napoleon secretly manages to hide some money in Jenny's backpack.

Meanwhile, Jenny's mother has started the search to bring back her daughter who has left a letter.

Philpot, Santa's head elf, can soon see to it that Jenny and Santa Claus are released on bail. He rolls a large gold bar on the chief's table and can buy a few other crooks in Santa Claus outfit, as well as a transport company. Napoleon, on the other hand, has to wait for his trial. After being released, Santa Claus initially no longer shows any interest in Jenny because work is waiting in the workshop at the North Pole. But Jenny persuades him to continue the mission to help her find her father.

In the meantime, the mother has arrived in Denver and is looking for Jenny with the police. But there is only Napoleon left who can persuade her to get him out of the cell and to look for Jenny with him or to start the chase. Thanks to the entrepreneur Hewes, Jenny got into a hot air balloon together with Santa Claus and Philpot and took off when her mother appeared. You fly away with an unknown destination.

When they land somewhere, they don't know exactly where they are. In front of a bank they meet two boys who are waiting for their father. He is sitting in the bank to be granted a reprieve. But the banker, Mr. Castleberry, is persistent. The father must now expect to soon be without a house or yard. He takes Jenny and Santa Claus with him and accommodates them both for one night. The next day is a horse-drawn sleigh race in which Santa Claus jumps into the breach for the father. The race will win $ 5,000. That sum that the father lacks to save his property.

In the course of the race, a skid bracket on Santa's car that had been prepared beforehand breaks. Santa Claus, who actually should not or did not want to use his magic powers and who had promised his wife this as long as he stayed among the people, uses this emergency and uses his magic power to help. With the last of his strength, he leads the sled across the finish line in front of Castleberry's son. Then Jenny and Santa Claus travel on by train. When they get out, a luxury limousine awaits them and the chauffeur asks them both to get in. Without knowing where or what to expect, they set off. They get out in front of the Woodford company, a renowned pharmaceutical chain that makes vitamin pills and health foods. The junior of the house welcomes you and shows you around the house. The father joins them and is very confused about the appearance of the two, as he was expecting his brother with his daughter.

In the company, Philpot's intervention in the production process leads to turbulent entanglements and soon everything is upside down. Jenny and Philpot have come up with a plan to save the company's employees from working for Christmas. When Mr. Woodford and his junior serve up, he first gives a lecture to Santa Claus, who is busy exploring the chaos. But he soon has to realize that the real Santa Claus is actually standing in front of him. Woodford says that he only lets his employees work for Christmas so that the company runs and does not make any losses. He starts brooding and admits that he has never thought about how the employees feel when they have to work for Christmas. He soon realizes the situation and changes his mind. When the workers arrive, he gives a short speech and gives them permission. Jenny, Philpot and Santa Claus fly on to Los Angeles on the company's own plane.

At Wonder Records they find out that Jenny's father has been fired, but that he has kept this from his family. As they stroll through the department store, Jenny recognizes the song that her father once wrote for her. She finds her father playing on the piano and they both hug. Napoleon and Jenny's mother also arrive at the same moment. When two security guards notice Napoleon, who is trying to get the rest of his money, and want to arrest him, Napoleon defends himself and unintentionally knocks Santa Claus down. The back of his head falls on the floor and he becomes unconscious. Jenny is shocked and believes that Santa Claus is about to die. Meanwhile, Philpot is looking for a doctor. Desperate, Jenny turns to the crowd and appeals to the conscience of those around her to believe in Santa Claus and stand by him. A murmur, nodding and unanimous approval goes through the crowd. As a result, something stirs in Santa Claus and he wakes up again. To make the party a little more perfect, Santa Claus gives Jenny a magic snowflake and then quietly steps away from the crowd.

criticism

"Undemanding Christmas film, created according to the conventionally tried patterns of the American television game. [...] Betulich-kitschy pause filler."
