Jef Geys (born May 29, 1934 in Leopoldsburg , Limburg Province , † February 12, 2018 in Genk ) was a Belgian photographer , sculptor and painter .

life and work

Jef Geys studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen and then settled in Balen . From 1960 to 1989, as a primary school teacher, he developed dozens of projects with students and teachers.

Geys' pictures, photographs, sculptures and installations are often conceived as serial and unfinished work processes.

Jef Geys began keeping an inventory of his work at the age of 13. The 36-hour black and white film Dag en Nacht en Dag en… reviews all of his photographs from the last 40 years in chronological order.
