Jeff Corey (actually Arthur Zwerling ; born August 10, 1914 in Brooklyn , New York , † August 16, 2002 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American actor .

life and career

Corey began his acting career as a Shakespeare actor in the 1930s and made his way to Hollywood in the following decade , where he soon became a sought-after character actor . At the time of the Committee on Un-American Activities (House Committee on Un-American Activities) but his career stalled in 1951. He refused to answer the committee's questions, so his name was blacklisted and denied further engagements for years .

Then Corey began to work as an acting teacher and taught numerous students until 1962, including Jane Fonda , Jack Nicholson and Robin Williams . With his participation in The Balcony he returned to the screen as a performer in 1963 and played over 150 roles in film and television by the end of the millennium. His most famous role was the Sheriff Bledsoe in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid .
