Jeff Julian
Jeff Julian (actually Jeffrey Lynn Julian; born October 9, 1935 in Taumarunui ) is a former New Zealand long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in the marathon .
In 1959 he was runner-up in both the Auckland Marathon Championship and the New Zealand Marathon Championship. In another marathon in Auckland he finished second behind Bill Baillie and ran the world's fourth fastest time of the year with 2:20:37 hours. He came fourth in the Athens Autumn Marathon.
The following year he finished second in the Auckland Championship and third in the New Zealand Championship. At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, he came in 18th place.
In 1961 he finished second in the New Zealand Championship and seventh in the Fukuoka Marathon . 1962 followed a second place in the New Zealand Championship a fifth place in the McCready's Auckland Marathon. At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth , he finished seventh in the marathon and tenth over six miles .
In 1963 he won the Auckland Championship and the New Zealand Championship. In autumn he won the pre-Olympic marathon in Tokyo in 2:18:01 h, and at the end of the year he won the Owairaka Lovelock Track Marathon.
The following year he defended his title at the Auckland Championship and finished fourth at the New Zealand Championship. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, he finished 29th.
In 1965 he won the Calliope Club Open Marathon and the Hamilton Harrier Club Marathon. In 1966 he was again Auckland champion and came in third place in the New Zealand Championship. He won another marathon in Auckland in April in 2:19:06 h, his fifth time under 2:20 h. At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games marathon in Kingston , he finished fifth. As the winner of the Owairaka Lovelock Track Marathon , he improved the following year to 2:15:44 h.
In 1968 he won the Auckland Championship, the New Zealand Championship, the Hamilton Marathon and the Owairaka Lovelock Track Marathon. In 1969 he defended his titles at the Auckland Championship and the New Zealand Championship and was South African champion. He won the Canadian National Exhibition Marathon in 2:15:41 h and the Hamilton Marathon was followed by eighth place in Fukuoka with his personal best of 2:14:38 h.
In 1970 he finished 18th in the British Commonwealth Games marathon in Edinburgh and came third in the Canadian National Exhibition Marathon. In 1971 he was fourth in the Maxol Marathon and fourth in the pre-Olympic marathon in Munich . In 1973 and 1976 he was the sixth and seventh time Auckland champion in the marathon.
He was New Zealand champion five times in the 10-mile or 15-km road race (1966-1969, 1972), four times in the marathon (1963, 1968-1970) and once in the cross-country run (1965).
