Jeffrey Frisch (born June 1, 1984 in Bressanone ) is a ski racer from Italy who, however, competes for the Canadian ski team. The South Tyrolean initially started for Italy and has been part of the Canadian ski team since the 2004/05 season . His strongest disciplines are downhill , super-G and giant slalom .

biography

Frisch contested his first FIS races in November 1999 and from January 2002 also took part in individual European Cup races. In the European Cup, however, he remained well behind the points and even in the FIS races he was only rarely able to rank among the top ten for five years.

After his move from the Italian to the Canadian Ski Association at the beginning of the 2004/05 season, the results improved. In December 2004, he won four FIS races in a row in Canada. In the Nor-Am Cup , the North American counterpart to the European Cup, he was among the top 15 from the start. In the 2005/06 season , Frisch made it to the top in the Nor-Am Cup. In the second downhill of the season in Lake Louise , he finished in the top three for the first time and after another three podiums in the Super-G and in the downhill, he celebrated his first victory on February 14, 2006 in the downhill of Big Mountain . With that he won the downhill classification and achieved third place in the overall classification.

Since the 2006/07 season , Frisch has also competed in the World Cup . He made his debut on December 1st in the downhill from Val Gardena and three weeks later he scored the first points in his fourth World Cup race as 29th in the Super-G from Hinterstoder . After falling well behind the points in his next three races, he surprisingly achieved twelfth place on the downhill from Kvitfjell on March 10, 2007 and thus his best World Cup result so far. In the Nor-Am Cup this winter he won the Super-G in Apex and the Downhill in Big Mountain and made it onto the podium twice more. As in the previous year, he reached third place overall, but in the discipline rankings he fell back to fourth in the downhill and seventh in the Super-G.

In early April 2007, Frisch injured his right knee during Super G training on Whistler Mountain . After an operation, he was only able to start skiing again after a break of almost six months. In the following winter he did not achieve the results of previous years due to the lack of training. In the Nor-Am Cup he was only once among the top three in the 2007/08 season and in the World Cup he remained without points in his seven races. In the winter of 2008/09 he won both giant slaloms in Panorama in the Nor-Am Cup and made it onto the podium three more times. With that he reached second place in both the giant slalom and the overall ranking. In his three World Cup races he was again without points.

On December 6, 2009, Frisch took 21st place in the giant slalom at Beaver Creek for the first time in two and a half years, but after that he was again without World Cup points for over two years. He had to end the 2009/10 season in February due to an injury. He suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his left knee during training in Nakiska . In the winter of 2010/11, in addition to the FIS races, Frisch had two starts in the World Cup, seven starts in the Nor-Am and four starts in the European Cup. He finished in the top five in two of the Nor-Am races. In the winter of 2011/12, Frisch was able to improve again. With 23rd place in the Super-G in Crans-Montana and 28th place in the Super-G in Kvitfjell, he won two World Cup points and achieved podium places and a victory in the Nor-Am Cup in the same discipline for the first time in three years. He finished third in the Super-G classification of the 2011/12 Nor-Am Cup .
