Jeffrey Hoogervorst (born October 23, 1984 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch football player . He played in the center-back position and was most recently under contract with the Spanish GCE Villaralbo .

Club career

As a youth player at Ajax Amsterdam, he went through all of the club's youth teams up to the amateur team. When he was not offered a contract after the 2001/02 season, but instead promoted Johnny Heitinga to the professional squad, he tried his luck abroad.

In 2002 he signed his first professional contract with the then Segunda División team, Sporting Gijón , which he immediately awarded to the third division club Mariono de Luanco for a year. The commitment of Hoogervorst meant a milestone for Luanco in their club history, as he was the first legionnaire in the history of the club. After 27 appearances this season with four goals, Gijón brought him back to their professional squad for the 2003/04 season. After two seasons with a total of only 10 short appearances, he made his breakthrough with the Asturians in the 2005/06 season . Gijón conceded the second few of all clubs in the Segunda División the season with 34 goals conceded, which was largely thanks to the great Hoogervorst.

For the 2006/07 season he made the next career leap when Real Madrid signed him for the B team. But in Madrid he only had 30 minutes of play against Albacete Balompié in six months . As a result, he pushed for a change in the winter transition period and was surprisingly signed by Real's big competitor FC Barcelona for their B-team.

In Barcelona he regained a regular place and completed 16 season appearances with one goal. Nevertheless, he could not save the team at the end of the season from relegation to the third division. After relegation, he then asked for the release of Barcelona to advance his career in a higher division. This was followed by trial training in England at Sheffield United and in Switzerland at FC Lucerne , which is managed by Ciriaco Sforza . For Lucerne he completed 6 test matches with one goal, after which he was presented with a contract offer. As a result, the newly appointed coach of the Catalans B-team, Pep Guardiola himself, stepped in to convince him to stay in Barcelona. Hoogervorst was impressed by Guardiola's perspective and stayed.

In a preparation game for the 2007/08 season, he injured his adductors with serious consequences and was out for 14 months. Since even a career end was not excluded, he was sacked by Barcelona at the end of the season without having played a regular game under Guardiola.

When he was able to play again in February 2009, he completed two test trainings at FC Zwolle and FC Volendam . In Zwolle they wanted to sign him, but this failed because of the club's miserable financial situation. In Volendam he was then 3 months with the club before it was decided against the player's commitment.

For the 2009/10 season he then returned to the newly relegated Mariono de Luanco to the Tercera Division II (fourth highest division in Spain). The club announced that they wanted to achieve immediate promotion with Hoogervorst. Hoogervorst himself commented on the change as follows:

“For my first season at Luanco, I was an inexperienced youth player. I now have a family and a son. There is a lot at stake for me. I want to go back to professional football through Luanco "

His older brother, Marc Hoogervorst, is also a professional footballer in the position of goalkeeper. After completing a youth academy at Ajax Amsterdam, he was most recently under contract with the Dutch second division club FC Omniworld .

National team

During his time at Ajax Amsterdam , Hoogervorst was called up several times in the Dutch U-16 and U-18 team. After moving to Spain , he was no longer considered for a Dutch national team.
