Jeje Odongo

Jeje Abubakhar Odongo (born March 3, 1954 ) is a Ugandan former general and politician of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who was among other things commander of Uganda's armed forces UPDF (Uganda People's Defense Force) between 1998 and 2001 and interior minister since 2016.

Life

Odongo completed a teaching degree at Makerere University , which he completed in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts and a diploma in education (BA Education). He joined the army and was from 1986 to 1987 Commander ( Commanding Officer ) and between 1987 and 1989 commander of army units of the then National Resistance Army NRA ( National Resistance Army ) before he 1989-1996 Director for supply and in 1996 briefly Political Chief Commissioner of the renamed Uganda Armed Forces UPDF (Uganda People's Defense Force) was. He then served as Minister of State for Defense between 1996 and 1998, and in 1998 replaced Major General Mugisha Muntu as commander of the Ugandan armed forces UPDF. He held this post until 2001 and was then replaced by Major General James Kazini . He then served as Minister of State for Environment between 2002 and 2006 and then obtained a Master of Arts in International Security at the University of Nairobi in 2007 and another Master of Arts in 2008 International Relations (MA International Relations and Diplomacy) at Nkumba University.

In 2009 Odongo was again Minister of State in the Ministry of Defense and held this post until 2016. Since 2016 he has been Minister of Internal Affairs in Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda's cabinet . In addition, he is a member of the Parliament of Uganda for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and represents the constituency of Orungo County , which is in the Amuria district in the eastern region.
