Jelena Alexandrovna Lyubimowa ( Russian Елена Александровна Любимова ; born September 25, 1925 in Moscow ; † April 22, 1985 ibid) was a Soviet geologist and geophysicist .

Life

Lyubimowa studied at the physics faculty of Lomonossow University Moscow (MGU) with mathematicians and geophysicists Andrei Nikolajewitsch Tichonow and Otto Juljewitsch Schmidt .

From 1949 Lyubimowa worked in the Geophysical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) headed by Schmidt (since 1955 Institute for Earth Physics of the AN-SSSR). In 1955 she successfully defended her dissertation on the thermal history of the earth for her doctorate as a candidate in physical-mathematical sciences. From 1957 she headed the Laboratory for Theoretical Geophysics. In 1966 she defended successfully her doctoral dissertation on heat flows of the earth for promotion to Doctor of Physics and Mathematics. The appointment as professor followed .

Lyubimowa examined the heat flows in the Earth's interior , the evolution of the earth and the moon , the subduction and the ocean floor spreading in the Kola region, the heat flows through the continents and oceans into the Arctic and the anomaly of the thermal conductivity and the electrical conductivity . She was founding chairwoman of the International Heat Flow Commission (1971-1979) and participated in the coordination of the project to create a map of the heat flows in the lithosphere . She coordinated the project to create a thermal model of the lithosphere of the Krymskaja Assoziazija Planowych Garanti (KAPG) company . She was Vice President of the National Council on Geothermal Surveys.
