Jelena Leonidowna Turyschewa ( Russian Елена Леонидовна Турышева ; born January 29, 1986 in Sverdlovsk ) is a Russian cross-country skier who specializes in sprint competitions.

life and career

After Turyschewa had started mainly in FIS races since 2006 , she first took part in races in the Eastern Europe Cup in the 2007/08 season . After several top ten placings and a third place in the sprint in Krasnogorsk , she finished twelfth in the overall ranking of the | Eastern Europe Cup at the end of the season. Good results in the traditional pre-season competitions in Muonio enabled Turyschewa to be nominated for the cross-country skiing world cup . On her very first appearance in Kuusamo , Finland , she reached the semi-finals and finished in tenth place. In the course of the season, she survived the qualification for the quarter-finals several times and finished in 36th place in the overall ranking of the sprint competitions. At the pursuit competition in Vancouver , she managed to win World Cup points in a distance race for the first time. At the Universiade in Harbin , China , she made it to the finals, where she finished fifth. Also in the 2009/10 season Turyschewa was able to build on the good performance of the previous year and repeated her placement from the previous year in Kuusamo. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, she finished 35th in the sprint.
