Jelyzaveta Chavdar
Jelysaweta Iwaniwna Chavdar ( Ukrainian Єлизавета Іванівна Чавдар ; Russian Елизавета Ивановна Чавдар / Elizaveta Chavdar Iwaniwna * 23 February 1925 in Odessa ; † 27. December 1989 in Kiev ) was a Ukrainian - Soviet opera singer ( coloratura soprano ) and vocal coach . In 1952 she was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR .
Life
In 1948 she finished the Odessa Conservatory and in the same year she was accepted into the troupe of the Ukrainian Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1949 she won second prize at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Budapest, and first prize at the same competition in Berlin in 1951 . In 1953 she joined the CPSU . From 1968 Tschawdar taught at the Kiev Conservatory (since 1979 as a professor, chair of solo singing).
Tschawdar performed in the USSR as well as abroad. Chawdar's repertoire essentially included the soprano parts of Russian and European classical opera:

- Violetta ( La traviata by Verdi)
Awards and honors
- Chavdar was awarded the Order of Lenin , the Order of the October Revolution and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor .
- In Kiev, a street ( Ukrainian Вулиця Єлизавети Чавдар ) has been named in honor of Chawdar since 2009 .
