Jenny Brumme

Jenny Brumme (born January 10, 1958 in Berlin ) is a German Romance philologist , linguist and literary scholar . Since 2001 she has been a professor at the Facultat de Traducció i d'Interpretació of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona .

Life

Jenny Brumme was born in 1958 as the first daughter of the school politician and university professor Johannes Brumme . From 1976 to 1981 she studied Romance languages at the University of Bucharest in Romania . Her major subjects were Romanian and Spanish Language and Literature, her minor subjects Portuguese and Catalan. After completing her studies, Brumme became an assistant at the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics section at the University of Leipzig , where she received her doctorate in 1985. The subject of her dissertation was "The process of the linguistic normalization of Catalan, represented by neological tendencies in the word formation of today's political-social lexicon".

From 1990 to 1993 she received a habilitation scholarship from the University of Leipzig and in 1995 did her habilitation at the University of Potsdam at Gerda Haßler's chair on the subject of "Spanish Language in the 19th Century. Linguistic Knowledge, Norms and Language Changes". A year later, she received the license to teach the subject "Linguistics (Romance Studies)".

While she was still doing her habilitation , she took up a visiting professorship at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra , Facultat de Traducció i d'Interpretació in Barcelona , where she was appointed full university professor on November 1, 2001.
