The Pompeu Fabra University ( Catalan : Universitat Pompeu Fabra ) is a university in the city of Barcelona in Catalonia ( Spain ). It was founded in 1990 and is named after the Catalan philologist Pompeu Fabra .

The first rector of the university was Enric Argullol , who was replaced in 2001 by M. Rosa Virós i Galtier . Josep Joan Moreso led the university from 2005 to 2013 . The current rector is Jaume Casals .

Well-known university professors

The professors include the economists Andreu Mas-Colell , Antonio Ciccone , Xavier Freixas , Jordi Galí , Rosemarie Nagel , Jaume Ventura , Hans-Joachim Voth , the sociologist Gøsta Esping-Andersen and the lawyer Jesús-María Silva Sánchez .
