Jeremy Roger Hansen (born January 27, 1976 in London , Province of Ontario ) is a Canadian aspiring astronaut .
biography
At the age of 17, Hansen received his private pilot's license and glider license . He then completed training at a military academy in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu . Hansen also studied space research at the Royal Military College in Kingston . In 2000 he received a Masters degree in physics from the same college for his work in satellite orbit tracking.
In 1994 Hansen was recruited by the Canadian armed forces and served there as a fighter pilot of the CF-18 jet, the Canadian version of the F / A-18 . He was also stationed with a squadron in Cold Lake , where he was responsible for overseeing NORAD air defense operations. Hansen, who was called to the United States and Europe several times during his active service, holds the rank of major .
Astronaut activity
On May 13, 2009, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) appointed Hansen as a member of the third Canadian space travel group in its astronaut squad. Until September 2011, Hansen completed his training as a mission specialist at the Johnson Space Center in Houston together with US astronauts . Since then, he has worked at JSC in the area of ISS operations and will support the astronauts on ISS expeditions 33 and 34 , including the Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield . From October 20 to 26, 2011, he was Capcom on the NEEMO-15 underwater mission .
The next space flight with Canadian participation was carried out by his colleague David Saint-Jacques from December 2018 to June 2019 , so that a space flight for Hansen cannot be expected before 2020.
Private
Hansen grew up on a farm in Ailsa Craig and later moved to Ingersoll to attend high school . He is married and has three children. His hobbies include sailing, climbing and mountain biking.
