Jeremy Opoku-Karikari (born July 23, 1987 in Hamburg ) is a German soccer player .

Career

Born in Hamburg with Ghanaian roots, he played for Concordia Hamburg , Eimsbütteler TV , Hamburger SV and FC St. Pauli in his youth . After first appearances in the reserve team of the Kiez-Kicker Karikari made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga for St. Pauli against FC Augsburg on November 11, 2007 .

In January 2008 he moved to the second team at VfB Stuttgart . He received a contract dated until the end of June 2010. After 42 appearances in the 3rd league , the defensive all-rounder switched to SSV Jahn Regensburg in February 2010 , where he tore his inner ligament after his first game and paused for a long time in the following season because of a tear in the outer and syndesmosis ligament had to. After only one year at SSV Jahn, Karikari moved to Eintracht Trier in the Regionalliga West in January 2011 .

In the 2012/13 season he played for RB Leipzig in the Regionalliga Nordost . On May 13, 2013, he was released with immediate effect because of misconduct in public and finally terminated without notice. On August 29, 2013, he signed a one-year contract with third division club VfL Osnabrück .

For the 2014/15 season Karikari did not receive a new contract in Osnabrück and moved to the regional league club SV Elversberg , who signed him until 2016. From February 2016 he played for Eintracht Norderstedt in the Regionalliga Nord. In April 2017 it was announced that he would be joining the upper division TuS Dassendorf for the new season .

Jeremy Karikari has been involved in Show Racism the Red Card - Deutschland e. V. In March he took part in a workshop of the education initiative and reported to the students about his own experiences with racism and discrimination . On the other hand, however, there are alleged homophobic statements by Karikari from the beginning of 2014, which he is said to have posted on his Facebook profile page after the coming out of ex-national player Thomas Hitzlsperger .
