Jerlan Jerlessuly Saghymbajew ( Kazakh Ерлан Ерлесұлы Сағымбаев , Russian Ерлан Ерлесович Сагымбаев Jerlan Jerlessowitsch Sagymbajew * 5. April 1970 in Ust-Kamenogorsk , Kazakhstan SSR ) is a former Kazakh hockey player and current - trainer . Since June 2015 he has been the head coach at Barys Astana from the Continental Hockey League .

Player career

Jerlan Saghymbayev began his career in 1988 with Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk . In 1989 he moved to SKA Sverdlovsk . In the 1990/91 season he played for Awtomobilist Karaganda . After a season he returned to Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk. Further stations were HK Awangard Omsk , Metallurg Novokuznetsk and HK Sibir Novosibirsk . In 1998 he switched back to Kaszink-Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk, where he ended his active career in 2000.

In 1998, Saghymbayev was appointed to the Kazakh national team and took part in the 1998 Winter Olympics, scoring a goal in seven games.

In the 2001/02 season Saghymbayev took over the coaching post of the second team with the Kazakh team Kaszink-Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk . In 2005 he was promoted to head coach of the first team that Saghymbayev coached until 2008. In the 2008/09 season he coached the Kazakh team HK Sary-Arka Karaganda . At the same time he was the head coach of the Kazakh national ice hockey team , which failed in Oslo in qualifying for the 2010 Winter Olympics . From this post, however, he resigned after the failed qualification in March 2009. Before the 2009/10 season he took over the post of head coach at the Kazakh club HK Ertis Pavlodar , which he held until 2011. He then became an assistant coach at Barys Astana .

In the 2012/13 season he was the assistant coach of Vladimir Krikunow in the Kazakh national team and made it to the top division at the Division I World Cup in April 2013. He remained in this position until the end of the 2013/14 season and was also employed by Barys.

In the 2014/15 season he was head coach of Barys' junior team, Sneschnyje Barsy, from the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League . In June 2015 he was introduced to Barys as the new head coach of the KHL team after Andrei Nazarow switched to SKA Saint Petersburg . In September 2015 he was fired along with his assistant trainer Raimo Helminen .
