Jerry Bock

Jerrold Lewis "Jerry" Bock (born November 23, 1928 in New Haven , Connecticut , † November 2, 2010 in Mount Kisco , New York ) was an American composer .

Life

Even while he was in high school, the young Jerry Bock devoted himself intensively to composing and thereby attracted the musical public for the first time. In 1958 the collaboration with the copywriter and librettist Sheldon Harnick began . The next seven years were the most successful for Jerry Bock. During this time he achieved his greatest musical successes, which brought him the Pulitzer Prize , a total of ten Tony Awards and a number of critical and audience awards.

Probably the most famous melody from the pen of Jerry Bock is: If I were once rich '(If I Were A Rich Man) from his most successful musical Anatevka (Fiddler On The Roof). Jerry Bock was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame along with his copywriter Joseph Stein . He also made a name for himself in his home country by actively campaigning for the next generation in many foundations and funds.
