Jerry Labriola

Gerald "Jerry" R. Labriola (* in Naugatuck , Connecticut ) an American pediatrician, author, and politician ( Republican Party ).

Life

Labriola was the youngest of four children of Italian immigrants. He graduated from Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut, and at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . He practiced as a doctor for the United States Navy for two years and then opened his own practice in Naugatuck in 1962. He later became President of the Glendale Health Care Center and Director of the Child Guidance Clinic in Waterbury. He was also an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut Medical School .

In 1980 he was elected to the Connecticut Senate and was a member from 1981 to 1982. In 1982 he was alongside Lewis B. Rome and Richard C. Bozzuto one of the candidates in the Republican Primary for a nomination of the party's candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial elections. However, he renounced in favor of Rome and became a candidate for the office of lieutenant governor after his nomination as his running mate . However, they were defeated by the Democrats Ella T. Grasso and William A. O'Neill .

In 1986 he tried again to be nominated for the Republican candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election. His competitors were Julie Belaga and again Richard C. Bozzuto. Belaga finally received the nomination. In 1994 he ran for a seat in the United States Senate , but was defeated by the Democratic incumbent Joe Lieberman .

In addition to his medical work and his excursion into politics, Labriola is also active as a writer. He wrote three forensic books on well-known criminal cases with forensic scientist Henry Lee and a crime novel with The Budapest Connection . As a solo author , Labriola is dedicated to mystery and crime literature . He was president of the Connecticut Authors Association and is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the International Association of Crime Writers .

Labriola is married and has two sons and a daughter with his wife, whom he met while in high school . His sons Jerry and David also became politically active.
