Jerzy Putrament
Jerzy Putrament (born November 14, 1910 Minsk , † June 23, 1986 Warsaw ) was a Polish writer , poet and publicist . He had been a member of the Communist Party since the 1930s .
Life
Jerzy Putrament made his poetic debut in 1932 and was a member of the Żagary literary group . In the book Seduced Thinking by Czesław Miłosz , Putrament is described under the code name Gamma (drawn as “the slave of history”).
Putrament took part in the Polish Red Army troops in World War II , became a leading member of the Union of Polish Patriots (ZPP) in the USSR after the war and worked as a diplomat for the Polish People's Republic; he was also a leading literary official at the time. From 1966 to 1971 he worked as an editor of the "Miesięcznik Literacki". He remained a staunch communist and a member of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party until 1982.
From 1954 to 1957 and from 1963 to 1973 Jerzy Putrament was President of the Polish Chess Federation (Polski Związek Szachowy).
