Jessica Elisabeth Angelique Folcker (also: Folker ) (born July 9, 1975 in Täby ) is a Swedish singer .

biography

Folcker was born the daughter of a Swede and a Senegalese in Täby, north of Stockholm . At the age of eleven, she attended a renowned stage school there. At the age of 17 she worked as a background singer for Dr. Alban and also for Ace of Base .

After the international success of these artists had subsided somewhat, the producers Max Martin and Denniz PoP , who had previously produced songs for the Backstreet Boys and 5ive , decided to market Folcker as a solo singer. Her debut album Jessica was released in December 1998 and became an international success. With her single How Will I Know (Who You Are) she also became better known in Germany. In Sweden, Folcker reached the top of the charts with their first two singles and received gold for How Will I Know (Who You Are) . She made history in the same year when she won two awards at Sweden’s number 1 radio station NRJ : New Artist of the Year and Swedish Female Artist of the Year . Previously, no artist could win two awards at once.

In autumn 2000 Folcker released her second album Dino , named after one of her producers, and now tried to make a breakthrough in the USA. However, there were some pronunciation problems with their last name, as many Americans pronounced their last name like fucker . Therefore, she decided to omit the C from her last name and from then on appeared under the stage name Jessica Folker .
