Jessica Pavone

Jessica Pavone (born December 17, 1976 ) is an American musician ( violin , viola , also electric bass and flute ) and composer of avant-garde jazz and improvisational music .

Live and act

Pavone studied classical music and music education at the Hartt School of Music , then worked briefly as a teacher in Hartford, Connecticut . There she came into contact with graduates of Wesleyan University and played with the Middletown Creative Orchestra in 1998 and then with the Correspondence Quartet. In 2000 she moved to New York City and has been active in the local music scene ever since. I.a. She worked for several years in a chamber music duo with guitarist Mary Halvorson and directed her own band projects such as The Pavones and Army of Strangers , with whom she made a guest appearance at the Saalfelden jazz festival in 2011 . She is also a member of the Thirteenth Assembly quartet . She has also worked with Randy Brecker , Jeremiah Cymerman , Matana Roberts , Aaron Siegel , Henry Threadgill, and Matthew Welch. For her work as a composer, she has received a number of grants including the Aaron Copland Recording Fund and the American Music Center . Her composition Quotidian premiered at the German Klangbad Festival. In the field of jazz she was involved in 45 recording sessions between 1998 and 2011, including a. also with Taylor Ho Bynum , Scott Fields , Jackson Moore , William Parker and Assif Tsahar . In 2009 she presented the album Songs of Synastry and Solitude ( Tzadik ), which was influenced by Leonard Cohen's Songs of Love and Hate (1970) . In 2012, Hope Dawson is Missing (Tzadik), also recorded in a string quartet, was released .
