biography

At the beginning of the 90s, the three DJs Claudio 'MozArt' Rispoli , Francesco Farias and Blade , who are already known in the Italian house scene , met in their hometown of Ravenna . Their concept was to combine the origins of house with the music that was current at the time. First the single "I'm Gonna Love You" was released in 1992, which was not only successful in Italian clubs, but also in England. In the following years the Italians released two more singles, "Say It Again" and "Can We Live", which were also very well received.

Encouraged by the success of these three singles, the first LP was created , which was released in 1994. Like the three singles before, "Love In A Black Dimension" was a complete success. In 1997 Jestofunk released the album "Remixes" and in early 1998 the second CD with the title "Universal Mother" followed for the first time with his own song material, in which the saxophonist Stefano Bedetti was involved. Cece Rogers , Fred Wesley and Jocelyn Brown can be heard as special guests on this album .

At the beginning of the new millennium, Cece Rogers said goodbye to the band and Wendy Lewis , which was initially only intended for a few guest appearances, worked with Jestofunk for a long time. Jerry Dugger and Hubert Tubbs, a former Tower of Power singer, could be won for the 2003 and so far last album "Seventy Miles from Philadelphia" .

style

The style of Jestofunk was clearly defined with the two albums "Remixes" and "Universal Mother". He moves between very house- oriented beats and almost traditional funk . On the one hand a continuous bass drum can be heard , on the other hand a driving bassline that does not change throughout the piece can be heard. The proportion of electronically controlled elements is very large and, in addition, instruments by guest musicians in the form of solos, percussions or their singing can usually be heard.

Mixes are also produced in which solos are dismantled and re-used. In the funk pieces, the proportion of guest musicians is very large, although here too there is often special electronic post-processing. The grooves are often slower and contain more syncopation .

Occasionally, other musical influences can be recognized. So too are singled trip-hop groove along with esoteric jazz-rock - chords combined or Offbeat - Reggae - guitars added. Jestofunk are also active as stage musicians.
