Jesús López Cobos
Jesús López Cobos (born February 25, 1940 in Toro , Zamora Province ; † March 2, 2018 in Berlin , Germany ) was a Spanish conductor .
López Cobos first studied philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid and completed the subject with a dissertation. It was only later that he began his musical studies and studied conducting with Franco Ferrara , Hans Swarowsky and Karl Österreicher , among others .
From 1981 to 1990 he was general music director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and from 1984 to 1988 he was also music director of the Spanish National Orchestra . From 1986 to 2000 Jesús López Cobos was chief conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra , and from 1990 to 2000 chief conductor of the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne . From 2002 to 2010 he was music director of the Teatro Real in Madrid .
Awards
- In 1981 he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize .
