Yevgeny Pavlovich Raphof ( Russian Евгений Павлович Рапгоф * August 13 . Jul / 25. August  1859 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † 17th March 1919 in Petrograd ) was a Russian pianist and music teacher .

Life

Raphof completed his studies as a pianist with Wladimir Puchalski and Karel van Ark at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1880 . He then continued studying with Theodor Leschetizky in Vienna . He gave concerts in Russia and in 1882 opened the music courses ( Raphof courses ) in St. Petersburg , which he directed for many years. From 1894 he also taught at the Nikolai Institute for orphans in Gatchina and became music inspector in 1898.

1888–1898 Raphof was music critic for the St. Petersburg Herald . Raphof put together many compilations for music students, including six etude collections , six large technical schools and the Recueil des compositions classiques et modern with 200 piano pieces .

Along with others, Raphof organized gramophone concert recordings in the early 1900s . He was very committed to the record as a means of disseminating music and published a book on the pianophiles and pianophobes with essays on records.

After the October Revolution he taught at the 7th District Music School.

Raphof's brother Ippolit (1860–1918) was a musician , music critic and writer under the pseudonym Count Amori .
