Yevgeny Tichonowitsch Raikow

Yevgeny Tichonowitsch Raikow ( Russian Евге́ний Ти́хонович Райко́в ; born March 25, 1937 in Moscow ; † June 11, 2010 ibid) was a Russian opera singer with a tenor voice .

Life

Raikow studied singing from 1958 at the Moscow Gnessin Music Conservatory . Later, further studies took him to Italy in 1966 at the opera studio of La Scala in Milan . In 1961 he was engaged as a soloist at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater , where he worked for many years. There he sang the lyric-dramatic tenor subject. His inaugural role there was Lenski in the opera Eugene Onegin , which was one of his particularly brilliant roles.

He mainly sang the great tenor roles of the Russian repertoire: Grigory Otrepjew (the false Dmitri) and Prince Shuiski in Boris Godunow , Prince Golitsyn in Khovanshchina , Vladimir in Prince Igor , Ivan Sobinin in A Life for the Tsar , Bayan in Ruslan and Lyudmila and the Title role in Sadko by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov .

His other roles in Italian, French and German included: Radames in Aida , Fenton in Falstaff , Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly , Faust in Margarethe and Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer .

Raikow can also be heard in some vinyl recordings and sound documents. These were released on the Melodiya label. In 1982 he took part in a complete recording of the opera War and Peace by Sergei Prokofjew under the direction of Mark Ermler (1932–2002). Also under the direction of Mark Ermler, he recorded the romance of Radames Se quel guerrier io fossi! .. Celeste Aida from the opera Aida with the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater . The recording is also in the holdings of the German Broadcasting Archive in Potsdam . He also sang together with the soprano Tamara Milaschkina and the Great State Radio Symphony Orchestra of the USSR under the direction of Evgeni Akulov excerpts from the unsuccessful opera Undine , which was partially destroyed by Peter Tchaikovsky , including a duet between the knight Huldbrand and the water mermaid Undine.

Raikow has received several awards for his artistic achievements. In 1970 he won second prize at the International Singing Competition in Sofia . In 1970 he was also awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize. In 1982 he was named People's Artist of the USSR . In 2009 he received the Russian Order of Merit for the Fatherland .

From 1966 to 1991 he was a member of the CPSU . From 1990 to 1994 he directed the opera studio of the Moscow Bolshoi Theater.
