Jewrovision
The Jewrovision [ ˈdʒuːrəʊˌvɪʒn ] is the largest music and dance competition of Jewish youth centers in Germany , which has been held annually in German cities since 2002. In the last few years there have been reports about this music event locally, regionally and nationwide.
meaning
The term Jewrovision is pronounced in English and is made up of the parts jew - English for Jew or Jewess - and Eurovision , based on the Eurovision Song Contest .
The Jewrovision competition was held for the first time in 2002 as part of a weekend leisure time organized by the Central Welfare Office for Jews in Germany (ZWST) in Bad Sobernheim (Rhineland-Palatinate). At this first Jewrovision, participants from six Jewish youth centers competed. The organization of the follow-up event was awarded to the Jewish community of the winning city from the 2004 competition onwards. Since 2005, the annual competitions have also had their own motto, which can also be reflected in the logo of the respective year. Since 2013, the Central Council of Jews in Germany has taken over the organization of the Jewrovision.

procedure
The process of the Jewrovision is intended to remind of the Eurovision Song Contest. As part of the competition, children and young people from the youth centers of Jewish communities in different German cities take to the stage.
After the moderator has given a speech, the opening act starts. Then the youth centers begin their performances. The order will be drawn by the moderator a few weeks before the event.
Each performance consists of two parts:
- a short film and
- a singing dance show on stage.
The video will be shot by the young people themselves. On the one hand, it presents the respective youth center and their hometown and, on the other hand, goes into the respective motto of the Jewrovision. The performance on stage consists of live singing and dancing. The lyrics written especially for the Jewrovision mostly deal with Jewish content, which also has to do with the respective motto of the Jewrovision. The dance interludes on the stage are choreographed themselves, although the number of dancers or singers is not specified.
When all the youth centers are ready, the special acts will be preformed by famous Jewish singers. In 2016, for example, Nadav Guedj, who represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015, and Noah Levi, the winner of the SAT1 casting show "The Voice Kids", sang there. In the meantime, the expert jury has time to evaluate the presentation.
Both the content of the lyrics (in connection with the motto) and the performance on stage are included in the evaluation of the performances. There is an extra video price for the introduction videos, they are not included in the overall rating. "The evaluation of the work is also based on the Eurovision principle: All participants award points, only not for their own community." Evaluation is either by a specially invited jury or by the youth center managers of the participating youth centers. E.g. In 2008, Ralph Siegel was a member of the evaluation jury and described the Jewrovision as "[...] a lovable miniature version of the Grand Prix."
media
The Jewrovision is mainly accompanied medially by the weekly newspaper Jüdische Allgemeine. Other media mention this in short articles. The youth center that wins the Grand Prix is usually also honored by the local media of the respective city. In recent years the Kölner Stadtanzeiger has published larger articles: The event will be broadcast live on the Internet.
