Flint Hammerhead ( Japanese 時空 探 偵 ゲ ン シ ン ン , Jikū Tantei Genshi-kun , Eng . "Spacetime Detective Genshi") is an anime television series by the studio Group TAC from 1998. The time thief Petra Fina ( 愛 野 瞳 , Aino Hitomi ) travels through time with her two assistants from the 25th century in order to confuse history for the Dark Lord and to steal the angels of time scattered throughout the ages. On one of their trips to the Stone Age, they meet Flint Hammerhead ( ゲ ン シ , Genshi ) and his father, whom they petrify to take away an angel of time. In the 25th century, the two Stone Age people are dug up again and resuscitated by Bernie Goodman ( 大 和 博士 , Yamato-hakase , "Dr. Yamato") in the temporary police. This gives Flint superhuman strength, while his father remains a talking stone and will serve as a hammer for him in the future. Together with the children Goodman, Sarah ( ソ ラ , Sora ) and Tony ( ト キ オ , Tokyo ), and on behalf of the temporary police, Flint sets out as a time detective to thwart every theft of Petra Fina and for this you travel through various ages.

Production and publication

The anime was created by Studio Group TAC under the direction of Hiroshi Fukutomi based on the idea and concept of Hideki Sonoda . The character design comes from Sachiko Ōhashi and the artistic direction was Hitoshi Nagao . There were 39 episodes, each lasting 25 minutes.

It was first broadcast from October 1, 1998 to June 24, 1999 on TV Tokyo . A German dubbed version was shown for the first time from February 28 to April 24, 2001 on RTL II . This was followed by repetitions on RTL II, Fox Kids and Kabel 1 as well as on Premiere. Fox Kids also released the episodes on DVD. The series was also broadcast on television in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese dubbing.

Tadashi Namba and Toshio Masuda composed the soundtrack for the series . The opening credits are underlaid with the song Power na Kimochi ( パ ワ ー な き も ち , Pawā na Kimochi ) by Yukari Asakura . The closing titles are:

Manga adaptation

In Kōdanshas magazine Comic BomBom one of appeared Hideki Sonoda written and Akira Yamanaka drawn manga series called Jiku Tantei Susume Genshi-kun! Jikumon Tanteidan ( 時空 探 偵 ゲ ン シ ク ン 、 進 め! ジ ク モ ン 探 偵 団 ) to the television series. In 1999 the six chapters appeared in an anthology.

reception

The series is a remake of the Time Bokan series from the 1970s, according to the Anime Encyclopedia , only with a stronger focus on monster hunting and collecting, which was popular in the 1990s after Pokémon and Digimon . The similarity with these two series is also what brought Flint Hammerhead to the USA.
