James Justin "Jim" Acker (* 24. September 1958 in Freer , Texas ) is a former baseball player of the Major League Baseball (MLB). He played from 1983 to 1992. He played college baseball at the University of Texas .

Career

Toronto Blue Jays

Acker was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the first round (21st pick) of the 1980 Major League Baseball Draft . On December 6, 1982, he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1982 Rule 5 Draft. He played mainly as a relief pitcher for the Jays for four years .

Atlanta Braves

On July 6, 1986, Acker was traded to the Braves. He spent four years with the Braves and recorded 7 wins, 27 losses with 16 saves and an ERA of 3.71 in 169 games .

On August 24, 1989, Acker was traded back to the Toronto Blue Jays by the Braves.

Toronto Blue Jays

Acker spent part of 1989 and the entire 1990 and 1991 seasons back with the Blue Jays. In his entire seven-year career with the Jays, he recorded 26 wins and 22 losses in 281 games with 14 saves and an ERA of 4.07. On October 31, 1991, he became a free agent.

Seattle Mariners

Acker signed on February 2, 1992 as a free agent with the Seattle Mariners . He appeared in 17 games and scored an ERA of 5.28 before being fired on July 21, 1992.

Oklahoma City 89ers

After the Seattle Mariners, Acker played in 1993 with the Oklahoma City 89ers, a triple-A team of the Texas Rangers . After appearing in 6 games, he ended his career.
