James Samuel "Jim" Morris Jr. (born January 19, 1964 in Brownwood , Texas ) is a retired American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) as the pitcher . His career served as a template for the 2002 film The Decision - A True Story .

Career

Before the major league

Morris was born in Brownwood, Texas. In the 1982 MLB Draft , the New York Yankees wanted to sign him, but Morris did not sign. A year later he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers and played in the farm teams of the franchises in Minor League (milb). Problems with his limb caused Morris to miss the entire 1986 MiLB season. In 1987, he ran four times for the Stockton Ports in the Single-A and even recorded a won game. But his arm problems persisted, so in 1988 Morris gave up his baseball career and worked as a chemistry teacher and high school baseball coach in western Texas. Eleven years after playing in the minor league, Morris gave a speech to his high school team about the importance of dreams and how to make them come true. His team challenged him to believe in his own dreams, so he bet that if his team wins the district championship, he will attend a trial . His team won the championship and Morris paid off his betting debts and took part in a trial session. He convinced the local scouts and signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays . Morris first played in 1999 for the Orlando Rays and the Durham Bulls in the Double-A and Triple-A .

Major League

Jim Morris made his MLB debut on September 18, 1999 at the age of 35 in the jersey of the Devil Rays against the Texas Rangers . In the game he pitched 1 / 3 innings , throwing a strikeout for which he needed only four throws. The game lost the Devil Rays 1 to 6. In his debut year he came on a total of five missions. At the beginning of the 2000 season his arm problems came back and he ran 16 times for the Devil Rays. His last game as a professional player he played on May 9, 2000 against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium . In the game, he pitched only against a Yankees batsman and walked this. The game was lost by the Devil Rays 3 to 4.

Morris MLB stats are 21 appearances, 15 pitched innings and 13 strikeouts with an Earned Run Average (ERA) of 4.80.
