Jimmy Harrison
James Henry "Jimmy" Harrison (* 17th October 1900 in Louisville , Kentucky , † 23 July 1931 in New York City ) was an American jazz - trombone player and singer of Swing .
Jimmy Harrison began playing jazz in Detroit in 1916 , and toured with smaller groups in the following years. He heard Louis Armstrong and King Oliver in Chicago in 1922 . He then went to New York and played with Fess Williams , June Clark , Elmer Snowden and Billy Fowler (together with Tommy Ladnier and Benny Carter in 1926 ).
Harrison was also briefly with Duke Ellington and from 1926 to 1931 a member of the Fletcher Henderson orchestra . As a rule, he did not take part in the band's tours, but worked in Charlie Johnson's band during such periods . In late 1930 he participated in the legendary Chocolate Dandies session with Benny Carter and Coleman Hawkins . He was employed by Chick Webb for several months until his death in 1931 . Jimmy Harrison made records with Benny Carter, Ellington, Fletcher Henderson, Bessie Smith and Webb during his short career .
