Jimmy Strong
Jimmy Strong (born August 29, 1906 , † April 1977 in South Carolina ) was an American jazz musician ( clarinet , also tenor saxophone ).
Strong performed as a teenager in Chicago in the groups of Lottie Hightower and Helen Dewey. He worked in California for a while after touring a show in the mid-1920s. Back in Chicago, he was a member of the Carroll Dickerson Orchestra between 1927 and 1929 , where he played with Louis Armstrong . From the summer of 1928 he was also a member of the studio band Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five , with whom he made numerous recordings. He was also a member of the Clifford King big band in 1928. In the 1930s he worked with Cassino Simpson , Zinky Cohn and Jimmie Noone , but also led his own bands. He moved to Jersey City around 1940 , where he formed a new band that performed at a club called the Blue Room . Then he worked in other professions; most recently he lived in South Carolina.
