João Batista Conturon

João Batista Conturon or Coutron SDB (born January 15, 1881 in Cluniat , France , † January 16, 1963 in Ressin , France) was a French religious priest , missionary and Roman Catholic apostolic administrator .

Life

After joining the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco , he went to Mato Grosso as a missionary in 1904 , where he worked for over thirty years. Two years after his ordination, he took over the management of the house in Cuiabá , which he held until 1926.

He was on July 21, 1925 by Pope Pius XI. appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Registro do Araguaia prelature founded in Brazil in 1914 . The prelature was raised to the diocese of Guiratinga in 1981 and is subordinate to the archdiocese of Cuiabá as a suffragan .

Conturon campaigned primarily for the Bororos and Carajàs .

In 1936 he returned to France for health reasons, where he worked as pastor in Montpellier for thirteen years and headed the house in Thonon for a few years . He was succeeded as administrator in 1937 by his brother José Selva e Amaral SDB.
