history
João Monlevade bears the name thanks to the French nobleman Jean-Antoine Félix Dissandes de Monlevade. This came to Brazil in 1817. He was only 28 years old at the time and had just graduated from Minas Gerais Province with a degree in mining engineering. When he came to Brazil, he started various companies; the most important of these was an iron factory (1825). The extensive knowledge that Jean de Monlevade had acquired through his studies and the purchase of means of production in England made the factory he founded one of the most important of the imperial era . It had a relatively diversified production.
