João Salaviza

João Salaviza Manso Feldman da Silva (born February 19, 1984 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese actor and film director .

Career

He studied film at the ESTC - Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in Lisbon, but graduated from the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires . His first short film Two People (orig .: Duas Pessoas ) in 2004 won a prize at the Curtas Vila do Conde short film festival .

His short film Arena won the Palme d'Or (short film) of the Cannes Film Festival and the Jury Prize of the Lisbon IndieLisboa Film Festival for best short film. With the award, Salaviza was able to draw attention to the possibilities of short films in Portugal and continued to campaign for the format. His next film with Hotel Müller in 2010 was a short film, a homage to the dancer and ballet director Pina Bausch, who died in 2009 . It was premiered in Lisbon's Teatro São Luiz , the place where Pina Bausch last danced her famous choreography Café Müller in 2008 . Salaviza had previously assisted the old master Manoel de Oliveira with the editing of his film Peculiarities of a Young Blonde .

After shooting spots for the European election campaign of Bloco de Esquerda , among other things , his next short film Rafa won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2012.

As an actor he was seen in various smaller roles, for example in the film Querença by his father José Edgar Feldmann, but also in international productions. However, his main focus is on directing.
