João Rosa Lã

João Rosa Lã (also João da Rosa Lã , * 1946 in Mira de Aire , Portugal ) is a diplomat and author from Portugal.

Career

Lã graduated from the Instituto de Ciências Económicas e Financeiras , the Faculty of Economics at the University of Lisbon . In his further career he was diplomatic advisor to Prime Minister Cavaco Silva , diplomatic assessor to General Vasco Rocha Vieira in the Ministry for the Autonomous Region of the Azores , Director General for Multilateral Affairs and Defense in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal and responsible for the OSCE Presidency of Portugal in 2002 under Foreign Minister Jaime Gama .

He was also in the foreign service for Portugal at various embassies active (u. A. In Guinea-Bissau), mainly responsible for the first time as the charge d'affaires at the Portuguese Embassy in Venezuela, then in other agencies as fully responsible ambassador . He was Portuguese ambassador to the Netherlands (1995–1999), Portugal’s representative in Austria (1999–2001), Portuguese ambassador to Spain (2002–2004), Portuguese representative to France (2004–2006) and Portuguese ambassador to Morocco (2006 –2011), where he was also accredited in countries without a Portuguese embassy , such as Slovenia, Andorra and Slovakia. After 2011 he went into diplomatic retirement.

He then became President of the Commission for European Affairs of the Geographical Society of Lisbon and a member of the Portuguese Navy Academy . He has also organized series of lectures and conferences on the subject of international relations in institutions such as the Portuguese Defense Institute ( Instituto de Defesa Nacional ), the Instituto de Estudos Superiores Militares , the Naval Academy ( Academia da Marinha ), the Geographical Society of Lisbon, and various universities in Portugal . At the New University of Lisbon he was a lecturer for a time. He also published a large number of articles on the subject.

In 2014, João Rosa Lã published a first book of his personal memories, Do Outro Lado das Coisas - (In) Confidências Diplomáticas (German: "On the other side of things - Diplomatic (un) confidentiality"). His first fictional work then appeared under the title O Passarinho Frito e Outras Histórias .
