Joé Descomps-Cormier

Joseph Jules Emmanuel Descomps , known as Joé Descomps-Cormier or Cormier (born January 18, 1869 in Clermont-Ferrand , France , † April 24, 1950 in Paris , France) was a French sculptor and goldsmith .

Life

Descomps was a student of Louis-Auguste Hiolin and Alexandre Falguière . The sculptor, engraver and master goldsmith lived and worked in La Charité-sur-Loire in the Nièvre department .

Since 1883 Descomps was a member of the Société des Artistes Français . He exhibited his work from 1891 to 1937 at their salons des Artistes Français . In 1898 he received an honorable mention and won the third prize in 1900 and 1921, the second in 1925 and the first in 1928. He also showed his work at the Salon des Société du Salon d'Automne and Salon des Tuileries . Through the mediation of Falguière he exhibited in Chicago . In 1924 he took part in the 1924 Summer Olympics in the competitions for sculpture .

The city of Paris and its museums bought some of his work, including Pandora ( Musée Galliera ), Danaide ( Musée du Luxembourg ), Artémis ( Musée du Petit Palais ) and Le Baiser de Judas (State of France, 1906), Nymphe et Satyre (City of Paris , 1917) and Enfance de Bacchus (City of Paris, 1928). Descomps' nude Femme au Lotus was in the pavilion of the French embassy at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels modern .

He also created decorative items in the Art Nouveau style , then in the 1920s statuettes in the style of Art Deco ivory Chryselephantin and metal that are designed to image foundries Edmond Etling and Barbedienne were manufactured. He sold his goldsmith's work through the Boucheron jewelry store in Paris.

After the First World War he signed his work with Cormier . On April 3, 1929, he was appointed a member of the Legion of Honor .
