Jo Strahn

Jo Strahn (born November 9, 1904 in Düren , † 1997 in Düsseldorf ; born as Peter Josef Strahn ) was a German painter , graphic artist and calligrapher and art teacher of classical modernism .

Live and act

Jo Strahn comes from a family of musicians from Düren. After Strahn had studied with Carl Jordan in Aachen, he went to the University of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig . He graduated from the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1926 . Then he founded a painting school in Düren . With this he moved to Düsseldorf and later to Düsseldorf-Niederkassel . His free, state-approved painting school was then housed in a former herb factory.

Many well-known artists studied at his painting school, such as Karl Stachelscheid , Alfred Schmela , Gregor Merten, Konrad Fischer , Gottfried Pohl , Hans Salentin , Günther Petersen , Albert Larres and Sigrid Wachenfeld .

An artist of silence

Jo Strahn was already referred to as an "artist of silence" during his lifetime. His own artistic work was the representation of nature as well as landscape and animal painting. "His pictures give the viewer the impression of something quiet and reliable that corresponds to his personality".
