Life

Jo van den Berg studied from 1971 to 1973 at the Polytechnic Photo and Film School "NARAFI" in Brussels . Between 1973 and 1975 he worked as an assistant for renowned photographers in Brussels, London and Amsterdam . In 1976 and 1977 he was a junior photographer with Reinhart Wolf in Hamburg . In 1978 he founded his own studio in Hamburg.

Since 2008, Jo van den Berg has been working in the "International Fashion & Beauty" division at times under the name JO FRANCIS . In 2008 he dared to design the works of Leonardo da Vinci's, in which he depicts the synesthesia of fragrance and light. In the motif "Scent of Light", he visualizes the moment of the announcement of the creation of the "divine fragrance" - he staged the implementation based on Leonardo da Vinci's " The Last Supper " and as a homage to the grand master of the image conception. Jo van den Berg places a woman - as a perfumer - as the central figure, surrounded by twelve apostles who offer her scent samples. The elaborately designed picture is rich in details. The style arrangements on the table represent the scents of perfume creations: fougère, floral, etc. - various symbols can be found in the design: the blue butterfly in the hand of an "apostle" stands for the lightness and poetry of scent, the scarab in stillness the right indicates the eternity of scents. The "Judas" figure holds a bunch of fresh lilies of the valley in his hand - a symbol of eternal youth. The recording was made in front of a so-called green screen in order to insert the room design into CGI (computer generated imaging) afterwards.
