Joachim-Friedrich Lang

Joachim-Friedrich Lang (born September 14, 1899 in Montigny near Metz ; † April 16, 1945 near Pillau ) was a German officer , most recently major general in World War II .

Life

Lang entered during the First World War on March 25, 1918 as an ensign in the replacement battalion of the Fusilier Regiment "General-Feldmarschall Graf Blumenthal" (Magdeburgisches) No. 36 of the Prussian Army . On April 15, 1918, he joined the regiment on the Western Front . After the end of the war , Lang worked in the Landesjägerkorps under General Maercker from March 1919 to April 1920 , then was accepted into the Reichswehr and finally retired from active service as a lieutenant on December 31, 1920 .

After the western campaign , Lang fought on the eastern front . There he received the German Cross in Gold on June 14, 1942 . As a colonel in the 481st Grenadier Regiment, Lang was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on September 4, 1943. On June 30, 1944, Lang was appointed commander of the 95th Infantry Division . After heavy losses against the Red Army , his division was disbanded in July 1944. After the division was reorganized in September 1944, Lang again acted as its commander. In this function, he was promoted to major general on October 1, 1944 in the Königsberg region . Lang fell on April 16, 1945 during defensive battles in the Lochstädter Forest near Pillau .
